Due to the softness of the paper (1/5 flatspot) jumbo rolls of tissue paper require special transport and wrapping methods. With the cylindrical body of the tissue paper roll lying on two rollers, the outer area is subject to trailing, compression and cutting leading to permanent damage. The new “deformable conveyor” concept, developed and patented by FIS Impianti, solves these problems as the conveyor “respects” the softness of the roll, distributing the roll weight on a wider and appropriately shaped area.

The Axial 93 is a high output, fully automatic, rotating arm, wrapping machine that incorporates this principal and has been designed to be inserted into a complete handling line.

The rolls are axially-wrapped by means of LLDPE stretch film covering both the heads and the body of the roll. During wrapping, the film laid onto the roll creates air bubbles providing protection against shocks and moisture - the degree of protection can be modified by varying the thickness of the wrapping film, its waving (thus increasing the quantity of air bubbles) and the quantity of layers onto the roll.
